Permutations Example 1
How many possible ways can you re-arrange the letters in the word MAN? Since there are 3 characters, the answer is 3 factorials or 3 x 2 x 1 = 6
Let's see if this is correct.
1. MAN
2. NAM
3. ANM
4. AMN
5. MNA
6. NMA
Yes, as you can see it is correct and also very easy.
Permutations Example 2
How many ways can you rearrange the letters in the words MAN with the letter M always in front.
There's only 1 way to put the letter M.
For the remaining 2 letters A and N there is 2 x 1 = 2 ways
1. AN
2. NA
So, with M always in front, the number of combinations is 1 x 2 x 1 = 2 ways.
Let's check
1. MAN
2. MNA
Again, this is correct
